PRODUCT REVIEW: Cyber Colors Ex-Volume Mascara vs. Cover Girl LashExact

I love trying out Japanese and Korean products because their formulas and products just work so much better on me.  When I spent a summer abroad in Korea during university, I fell in love with so many Korean products because even the basic drugstore brands worked really well! The skincare products aren't too heavy but still very moisturizing, and makeup products stay on for a long time and are just good quality..... I'm definitely a huge fan of Asian beauty brands.

Cybercolors is a fairly new beauty brand which has received rave reviews for being reliable and good quality.  I was super-excited to try out their Ex-Volume waterproof mascara (Retail $25) i picked up from Sasa when i was in HK last Fall.  For those unfamiliar with Sasa, Some photos of the product itself:

What the product says:

Three secrets which enhance volume of eyelashes

1) Extra Volume Formula contains Candelilla Wax Extract which enables the mascara wrap the eyelashes tightly and curl 75° upwards instantly. The unique formula also make the eyelashes look soft and volumetric.

2) The Instant Dry and Waterproof Formula enable the mascara to withstand the melting action from water, sweat and sebum strongly. It provides a long lasting action for 18 hours.

3) Vitamin B5(Panthenol)and vitamin E (Tocopherol) are added to nourish every single eyelash entirely.  (i love how it is GOOD for my lashes!)

What's unique about the wand is it has 2 sides with different bristle lengths - one with very short bristles and one with longer bristles that you would normally see in a mascara wand.  I liked that i could reach inside my eyelashes really easily with the short bristles side.

Bottom sticker label. My oily Asian eyelids only allow me to wear waterproof mascara.  Waterproof tends to hold curls better anyways.

Cyber Colors ExVolume ($25) 8g or 0.28 oz vs. Cover Girl LashExact ($9) 4g or 0.13 oz.
You do get more product in the Cyber Colors mascara, however one thing to note is that I've never finished a Cover Girl mascara prior to the 4 month-expiration-mark for mascaras. For hygiene purposes, I will need to toss away a mascara regardless if there is a lot of product left or not.

For comparison, here are photos of me testing out both mascaras.  Looking upwards helps to show my puny-little lashes.  Just ignore the huge end-of-day bags under my eyes :p

Photo 1: No mascara, eyelashes curled.

Photo 2: 1 coat of mascara.  Cybercolors ExVolume (Left) and Covergirl Lash Exact (Right)

Photo 3: 2 coats of mascara.  Cybercolors ExVolume (Left) and Covergirl Lash Exact (Right)
Notice the difference between the two? You can see more volume and longer lashes with Cybercolors ExVolume.

Both mascaras had great volume, lengthening and curl-holding ability.  If i had to choose one though, Cyber Colors ExVolume won in the volume department.

TEST: To test out the mascaras waterproofness (not a real word), i wore them to the gym for a sweaty 45 min workout.  Totally smudgeproof and no flaking. Two thumbs up! =)

Overall, I give Cyber Colors ExVolume Mascara 9/10. It volumizes, lengthens, holds curl and has great lasting power. Amazing.  The only drawback is the price. It is double the price of Cover Girl Last Exact.

Where to Buy: Cyber Colors is available exclusively at Sasa storesTIP:  Purchase in-store if possible (if you happen to be visiting Asia or have friends there). I bought this for ~$21 CDN in HK and it is available online for $25 CDN.  It really depends on the exchange rate, but there are also online sales.

For those not familiar with Sasa, i like to describe it as the Sephora of Asia :p With over 190 retail stores in HK, Macau, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, you can find over 400 brands (Asian and International) of skincare, fragrance, haircare, makeup, body care, beauty supplements, etc. It is a BEAUTY MECCA. I can spend hours in that store....

I love this Cyber Color Ex-Volume and highly recommend to others!  It is hard for me to find mascaras that fit my criteria and this one worked beautifully. Yet another Asian product winner!  =)
I want to try other Cyber Color products now....

Have you tried products by Cyber Colors? What is your experience with this brand?
